Wagon Wheel 2013

Ava competed this weekend in her very first pre-preliminary event requiring all her single jumps (except axels) and combination spins and jumps.  She placed 5th out of 7 with two judges giving her a 2nd and 3rd place.  We are very proud of her hard work.  These other skaters were all very polished.  All 4 of the girls that placed ahead of her had very beautiful front to back scratch spins, which Ava hasn't quite gotten good enough to put in her program. Ava's coach said it was clear that all of the other girls had probably competed at this level the entire season.  Since Ava started competing USFSA, she has received 9 first place medals and 6 second place.  It was definitely time for her to move up, even though the season has not quite ended yet.  She has 3 more competitions before the Christmas show, and then the next season begins in April 2014.

Ava was not entirely focused for this event, because her mind was on the music since the disaster that occurred with her last event.  In fact, as soon as she got off the ice, the first thing she said to me was "mom, the music didn't skip!".  That is really all she cared about.  But now, seeing the level of these other girls, she knows what she has to do to do well.  This is what it"s all about.  She will only just keep getting better and better!  Enjoy her program!
